Your nerdy news, digested

About digesTvo

The tech and nerd news worth your morning, read off Hacker News and Lobsters, chewed up and served in newspaper format.

Every morning the two biggest nerd front pages publish more than anyone can read, and none of it will still matter by lunch. So somebody has to read it. That is the whole business model.

This is my personal edit: the handful of stories that survived I consider a close read, each one boiled down to what the article says and what the people say, with a link to the original post so you can read it properly or go argue with strangers. A story that ran on both sites gets one entry, not two — overlap is a signal, and two communities with different tastes pushing the same thing to the top means it probably matters.

The look is old on purpose: a nameplate, dated editions, a hairline between sections, nothing blinking. The pace is not. It is built for the two minutes between the kettle boiling and the first meeting.

How a story reads

The headline, verbatim — nobody rewrites a good title. Then three or four sentences on what the article actually says, written to stand entirely on its own. Then the discussion: what the thread agreed on, where it split, and the sharpest objection in it. Not a second summary, a read of the argument, which is usually the part nobody wrote down.

What it is not

Not a firehose. An edition is picked, not accumulated, and most of the work is saying no. No ads, no trackers, no newsletter pop-up, no “read more” teasers. No hot takes either: the digest reports what a story said and what the thread argued, then leaves the verdict to you.

The name

Digestvo is the digestive, the noun — the thing your body breaks a meal down into so the rest of you can use it. You are handed the raw feed, a thousand submissions and a few thousand comments, and you get back the part that was worth the chewing.

We brew the coffee. You get to 💩 in social media with the energy to spare.

Set in Newsreader and Alfa Slab One, deployed by GitHub Pages, tracked by nobody, and open at github.com/3zcurdia/digestvo if you want to check the work.
